Providing protective product training to female entrepreneurs

Providing protective product training to female entrepreneurs
The #COVID19 pandemic has affected the livelihoods of female entrepreneurs all over Ghana, including in extractive areas. The West Africa Governance and Economic Sustainability in Extractive Areas (WAGES) project held a two-day training to help women and youth beneficiaries diversify their skills and businesses by producing quality health and hygienic products needed in their communities.

These high-demand products will now protect community members and help provide an income for these newly trained female entrepreneurs.

Wassa East District: Head Teacher Of T.I Ahmmadiyya Mission School Elected As Presiding Member Of Wassa East District Assembly

The Head Teacher of Sekyere Adiembra T.I Ahmmadiyya Basic School, Hon. Stephen Kuma Angu has been elected as the Presiding Member (PM) for Wassa East District Assembly. Hon Angu who is also the assembly member for Sekyere Heman electoral area polled 25 out of 31 valid votes cast after he failed on the second attempt to obtain 2/3 of the valid votes cast to be elected as the P.M.

Speaking after he was sworn in by the Wassa East District Magistrate, His Worship Samuel Boabin Quansah at Daboase in the Western Region, Hon. Angu thanked the assembly members for doing him the honour by electing him to steer the affairs of the assembly in the next two years.

He promised to learn the grounds rules quickly and work assiduously to justify the confidence reposed in him.

He also thanked the former presiding member for redrawing his candidature for him to ensure that he receives the mandate of the assembly.

Hon. Anguassured the assembly that he will be transparent and eschew corruption, he however admonished the assembly members to involve unit committee and area council members in their assembly work.

According to the PM, he will ensure that letters and minutes summoning members for meetings and sittings are released on time so members can prepare adequately for it.

For his part the Member of Parliament for Wassa East District, Hon. Isaac Adjei Mensah who also doubles as the Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways congratulated the assembly members for saving the district the unnecessary stress as a result of not being able to reach an agreement.

Earlier, the District Chief Executive Hon. Anthony Emmanuel Aggrey and the District Coordinating Director Madam Rachel Fosua Sarpong took turns to address the assembly on the need to reach consensus in electing a PM, stressing that failure to elect PM for the Assembly will spell doom for the district since the district will lose many financial assistance from the District Development Facility (DDF), Common Fund and also the capacity to mobilize internally generated funds (IGF).

They admonished the assembly members not to run a one man show and do their best to rope in all their electorates in their work.

The assembly seized the opportunity to form seven sub-committees. They include, Works Committee, Finance and Administration, Environmental Health, Justice and Security, Executive Committee, Social Services Committee and Revenue Committee.

SITUATIONAL REPORT ON DABOASE CIC AND THE INSPECTION OF ICT LAB’s IN VARIOUS SCHOOLS IN ACROSS THE DISTRICT

http://www.ghanadistricts.com/Home/District/216

As part of bridging the digital divide between the served and underserved communities across the various communities in the Wassa East District of the Western Region of Ghana. It is proved beyond doubt that, Daboase CIC has been of a great help to the entire District.
The center has been of tremendous help to the youth and school children the most. For years, the center has been helping in the areas of software and hardware lessons. This year alone a total of one thousand and thirty-nine (1039) pupils from primary one (1) to Junior High School have been trained in the history of computers, uses of computers, its maintenance and basic typing.
In May this year, The Ministry of Communication in collaboration with GIFEC and the Wassa East District Assembly organized two weeks coding program for girls. Sixty Girls from six selected school in the district compete with nine districts in the western region. Out of the sixty girls, seven girls were  selected to represent the district and they were awarded with laptops, MTN data for one year, tablet for free and the other students were also given a certificate for participating , that  shows that the CIC is really projecting the image of GIFEC and the district as well.
Currently one hundred and forty (140) students are in Coding Club in various schools in the district which are running after classes.
Since the establishment of the facility, about 60 – 70 percent of youth in the district have acquired computer knowledge through training at the Centre.
I am happy to say that some of the youth are currently into photocopy business, mobile money business, mobile phone repairs, software and hardware installation and many others.

Deployment of computers to nine schools in the district have received ten computers each, projectors and scanner machines, out the ten, two of the schools (Amponsanso basic and Essamang Basic school) have a fully installed internet services.
The District is also blessed with NABCO personnel at the CIC and some various schools in the district to help pupil and the community in computer training.
The CIC is still open to the general public to enroll in basic computer training to help equip and break the gap of computer literacy in our district.
Below are the schools that are yet to receive their computers
