DISTRICT: Technical Committee On Planting For Food And Jobs Inaugurated
The Western Regional Minister Dr.
Kwaku Afriyie has inaugurated a 5–Member District Technical Committee for the
government’s “planting for food and Jobs” programme at a short ceremony in
Daboase in the Wassa East District.
According to the Minister, the
committee is expected to monitor the implementation of the programme in the
district.
He added that, the committee will
among other things facilitate the coordination of activities and make
recommendation.
Dr. Afriyie disclosed that, the
district will focus on maize, rice and vegetable production.
He further tasked the committee to
manage and monitor the programme implementation through the provision of
improved seeds, supply of fertilizers, provision of dedicated extension
services, marketing strategy among others.
He revealed that the programme will
among other things encourage the youth to desist from migrating elsewhere in
search of non-existing jobs, saying that government’s commitment to provide the
necessary incentives and policy initiatives to make the agricultural sub-sector
more vibrant and profitable.
The Regional Minister also encouraged
more youth to go into commercial farming as a source of employment to support
the country’s development agenda.
The DCE for Wassa East Hon. Wilson
Arthur thanked the Regional Minister for the confidence reposed in them and
pledge their readiness to serve the country with dedication.
The members of the committee include
the District Chief Executive (DCE) Wilson Arthur, District Coordinating
Director Madam Rachel Fosua Sarpong, the District Director of Agric, Joseph
Kofi Ayiah, Youth Employment Director Ebenezer Tamakloe and Farmers
representative Jones Benjamine Tawiah
